The name alone sounded like one of his songs. L'Accadia. Enrico Macias bought it in 1973, set on the heights at the entrance to the gulf, nearly a hectare of olive trees and lavender. For over forty years it was his Provençal retreat, the place where he came back to his wife Suzy, his grandchildren, and where Charles Aznavour and Gilbert Bécaud would sometimes show up for long dinners that went on well into the night.
But behind that sun-warmed scene, a financial disaster had been building for years. In 2007, Icelandic bank Landsbanki granted him a large loan, with the villa as collateral. When the bank collapsed in the 2008 crisis, its liquidators demanded full repayment. A 30-million-euro debt settled in like weather. Nearly twenty years of legal proceedings followed.
In 2026, at 87, he finally let go. The villa was sold, a confidential agreement reached with the liquidators. The file is closed. L'Accadia no longer belongs to him.
And yet. Despite all of it, Enrico Macias came back to Saint-Tropez this summer. He was spotted at Le Caprice des Deux, a bistronomy restaurant in the village, looking, by all accounts, very much himself. The house is gone. The appetite for life, apparently, is not.
