Every summer, the same performance repeats itself: the same chains, the same logos, the same bags circulating along the port. You spot them from a hundred metres away, tourists hunting for the postcard version of Saint-Tropez.
But there is another village. One where the boutiques don't force you to elbow your way in, where you find a dress that won't be worn by three other people at the Sénéquier the same evening. Discreet addresses, often tucked into the lanes of la Ponche or near the place de l'Ormeau, away from the noise of rue Gambetta.
At K Jacques, they still make sandals by hand, as they have since 1933. At 56, rue Allard, Gas Bijoux continues to craft pieces you won't find anywhere else. Further on, the gallery-shop White & Sable blends fashion and contemporary art in the atmosphere of a Provençal curiosity cabinet.
These places share something: they belong to the village, not to the season. You'll find as many locals here as discerning visitors. No flashy window displays, no giant logos. Just that style you recognise, the kind that makes people ask you all summer long, "Where did you find that?"
And that's exactly what we're after, isn't it?
