Maison Michel Sets Up Shop in the Village This Summer

Maison Michel, the Parisian hatmaker that has dressed the heads of Saint Laurent runway shows and Catherine Deneuve for decades, plants its flag in the village this summer. A seasonal pop-up trading in hand-stitched Panamas, old-world craft, and the kind of luxury that lasts.

Maison Michel, the Parisian hatmaker that has dressed the heads of Saint Laurent runway shows and kept Catherine Deneuve looking right for years, is setting up in the village. A pop-up for the season, somewhere between place des Lices and the port (the exact address remains cagey, though word is work has already started).

The wager? Bet on the summer crowd hunting the perfect hat for les Graniers or the terraces of la Ponche. Hand-embroidered Panamas, oversized capelines, a reworked bob with a couture touch, the house plays it straight: made-to-measure the old way, nothing like the logo caps flooding everywhere else.

Founded in 1936, Maison Michel has always understood one thing: a hat is not just a shield against the sun. It is an accessory. The piece you wear for a decade, the one you pass down. That philosophy sits oddly with Saint-Tropez in July and August, easier to digest in the off-season, when the village remembers itself.

Whether the village actually needs another luxury hatmaker remains to be seen. Still, this one has the chops. And truthfully, between yet another 400-euro swimwear boutique and a craft house standing on its own for nearly a hundred years, the choice writes itself.
