Blue shark filmed close to shore in the harbour

A blue shark was filmed in the harbour at Saint-Tropez, very close to shore. The sighting is a reminder that several shark species frequent the Mediterranean without posing danger to humans.

A blue shark was filmed in the harbour. Very close to shore, according to witnesses quoted by Nice-Matin.

The scene is certainly striking. Yet several shark species frequent the Mediterranean, including the blue shark, a pelagic species that sometimes approaches the coast. Harmless to humans under normal circumstances, this sleek predator can exceed two metres in length.

Similar sightings have occurred before. In 2011, a diver working on anchor lines in the harbour came face to face with a sizable individual. The animal showed no aggression whatsoever.

This time, the video is circulating. A reminder that the sea, even in a renowned pleasure harbour, remains a wild place. And that visitors with fins don't always ask permission before entering.

Maritime authorities remain vigilant, but the species poses no particular danger. Just a small shiver for bathers who prefer to keep their feet on the pontoon.
